This place is first class all the way! The Lodge is spectacular! Start your day with a light breakfast of coffee and muffins before heading out for an elk hunting adventure. Hop in an ATV and ride to an ideal location, where a short walk sets you up for an incredible experience to glass and bugle for elk. There are lots of elk in this area! After your morning hunt, return to the Lodge for a late breakfast or early lunch, depending on your discoveries. Relax and prepare for the evening guided hunts. The expert guides, Lance Hansen and Kaycee Feild, are fantastic and have an innate knowledge of where the elk and even mule deer are located! Once you successfully bring down an elk, they will guide you back to help retrieve the animal and bring it back to the lodge. If you're interested in the hunt of a lifetime, this is definitely the spot! With easy access from the Salt Lake City Airport, they provide elk tags and take care of all the paperwork for the Utah State hunting license. I highly recommend Coal Fork Outfitters for a 5-star experience!

I have been fortunate to film elk hunting adventures in many beautiful places around the world, and Coal Fork easily stands out as one of my favorites. The sheer number of animals we encountered was staggering. I’ll never forget the incredible experience of listening to hundreds (not exaggerating) of bugles one evening. Watching the bulls fight and hearing cows chirping... it’s rare to witness elk acting so naturally. The food was top-notch, thanks to a wonderful cook who prepared fancy meals with a home-cooked vibe. The lodge is literally one of the nicest places I’ve ever visited, be it for hunting or otherwise. It was so impressive that once I showed my wife a video of it, she flew down from Canada just to enjoy it for a few days. The scenery looked almost fake; everywhere you turned seemed like a postcard. But most importantly, it was Lance and Kaycee who really tied everything together. We took a beautiful herd bull and spotted many more contenders during our guided hunts. They are professional, fun, knowledgeable, and passionate hunters. I hope to return someday because this Mule Deer hunting operation is often fully booked.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Coal Fork Outfitters logo with antler illustration.

Where does your hunting take place?

Our guided hunts for elk and mule deer take place on the Bear Mountain CWMU management unit just east of Mt. Pleasant, UT.

    Do you have guaranteed permits?

Yes, where we hunt, we have guaranteed vouchers through the CWMU hunting program in the state of Utah for both elk hunting and guided hunts, as well as for mule deer hunting.

When hunting with Coal Fork Outfitters what should I bring?

For your elk hunting or guided hunts, we can provide a hunting rifle if needed. It's important to have appropriate hunting clothing that is weather dependent, as the conditions in Utah can change very quickly. Don't forget your personal items, toiletries, and an excellent pair of hunting boots with good socks, as your feet are crucial to your experience, whether you're out for mule deer hunting or tracking elk. Bring binoculars to enhance your spotting abilities, and a daypack if desired, though it's not required. No bedding or sleeping bags are needed for your stay. We also have a hot tub, so feel free to bring a swimsuit if you'd like to relax after a day in the field.

What kind of facility do you hunt out of?

We have a spacious 10,000 sq. foot lodge equipped with all the amenities for your stay. You will enjoy the comfort of your own room with a separate bathroom during your elk hunting or mule deer hunting adventure. All drinks (excluding alcohol), snacks, and excellent meals will be provided, and we have a full-time camp cook available at all times to cater to your needs during these guided hunts.

How is meat and trophy care handled?

We have local butchers who will cut, wrap, and ship to anywhere in the lower 48 states, whether you’ve just brought in your catch from elk hunting or need processing for your recent Mule Deer hunting trip. Additionally, we collaborate with one of the best taxidermists in the business, who will ship to any location to preserve your memories from guided hunts.

    Gratuity and tipping?

We are often asked, "How much should I tip my guide and cook after my Elk hunting or Mule Deer hunting experience?" This can be a challenging question, as tipping reflects a job well done. Based on our experience with guided hunts, if the adventure met your expectations and you felt well taken care of, we recommend a tip of 15-20% of the total cost of the hunt. Keep in mind that our guides and cooks work tirelessly around the clock to ensure you have an unforgettable experience.

What is your wounding and loss policy?

Due to our management objective to provide exceptional trophy hunting opportunities, including elk hunting and mule deer hunting, we must consider wounded animals as potential harvested animals. If you hit an animal during your guided hunts, it becomes your responsibility to pursue that animal for the remainder of your hunt. However, keep in mind that you won't be able to harvest another animal until that search is concluded.
